On May 9, at 32 weeks pregnant, I went into early labor and was rushed to the OR for an emergency csection. As a result, one of my baby girls didn’t survive and her sister was admitted to the NICU. She is doing well as am I.

I’m sure you can imagine how difficult this is for me to share and how heartbroken my husband and I are at this time. However, we can’t help but be excited and thankful for the life of our surviving baby and what the future holds for her.

I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers for my family and me as we go through this difficult time. Thank you for your support through this journey. I hope to make more videos and blog posts sometime in the future!

On February 20, 2012 I decided to put what had been simply an idea for so long into action.  I would like to express my gratitude to you guys for continuing to visit this blog. A lot has happened over the past year and I truly appreciate all of you for sticking with me–even if only to see what was next. Working on this blog has been one of the best experiences of my life. It has given me an outlet to express myself as well as the opportunity to meet tons of new people. I have put together a compilation of some of my favorite looks from the year. Side note: these pictures are making me miss my big hair and small waistline. Lol! Hope you enjoy!

In all of my exctiement to post my YouTube video yesterday, I forgot to photograph myself in the outfit that I was wearing, so here it is. I love sequins in the daytime so this Wildfox Couture sweater (similar) is perfect for winter. I substituted the cheetah print pumps that I would usually wear with these cute little booties from Zara (old) and added these leather panel pants (similar) by 2bRYCH to add a little edginess to the look. My accessories are by Hermes, Michael Kors (watch and bracelet), Louis Vuitton (scarf), and Forever 21.

Thanks to Hurricane Sandy, I have an extra day off to shoot some video and photo posts! I was recently contacted by Christine Mapondera of Sireka Couture with a request to feature some of her custom items on my site. Sireka Couture, a Michigan based fashion line inspired by the beauty of cosmopolitan women, is cultivated by Christine’s vision to merge the beauty and delicacy of American style with exotic African prints. Sireka Couture made its debut in the Spring of 2012 with a clothing line that exemplified its mission to dress the graceful, chic and independent woman; while also celebrating everything uniquely feminine. The fashion line also recently launched its Spring/Summer 2013 collection at Michigan Fashion Week on Sept 15^th, 2012! Always interested in the story behind the design, I had a few questions for Christine

1. Tell me about what inspired you to begin designing. How long haveyou been designing for your own company and how did you get started?

I started concentrating in fashion design early in 2008 by specializing in designing and producing accessories. My main inspiration comes from the influence of my environment growing up in my native country of Zimbabwe. The boldness and richness of African prints just sets them apart. I’m also inspired by the beauty of women and how we have evolved over the centuries, embracing our feminism and expressing is so confidently especially with our fashion sense. When I design one could say I’m merging the African culture and American style, which is true in some respect. However, I fell like I’m merging 2 cultures, the 21st century woman and the African culture.

2. What keeps you motivated when it comes to design? What is theinspiration behind your fall 2012 line and are there any designersthat you find intriguing at the moment?

I’m also driven by the desire to be part of what I think of as a revolution in fashion when it comes to African designers that are really setting the bar when in regards to African inspired fashion. Currently some of my fav designers include Vera Wang, JewelbyLisa (Nigeria), Korto Momolu and Christian Siriano.

3. How do you choose your fabrics? Is there a specific customer thatyou have in mind when you create pieces?

When I choose prints, I tend to go for graphical patterns. I’ve noticed with time that I have a love for goemetric like, color matters too but its mostly the graphics that draw me. When I’m designing the woman I have in mind is simply graceful, chic and independent woman.

You guys know how in love I am with prints so imagine my delight when I received these amazing pants from Christine! Since living in NY, I have been afforded the opportunity to wear “regular” clothes to work as opposed to scrubs, so it has been a pretty interesting challenge to try to combine my personal style with something suitable for the office. So, while I could have easily gone in a completely different direction with this look, I wanted to go with a more workplace friendly look. Let me know what you think!

Hi friends!

I’m sure (based on your concerned tweets and FB messages) you guys have wondered what I’ve been up to. No need to worry.  I have just been extremely busy with my 9-to-5 (I miss my 3/12-hr shifts per week, but love what I’m doing now!) and haven’t been about to work in any time for my fun job. I thank you all for sticking around and I’m hoping to have some new looks at least in the form of YouTube videos to show you very soon.

I have finally finished (almost) my wardrobe room so I’ll be showing you that very soon. Also, I’ve had to change up my skin care and makeup routines for NY as well as for the winter—details on that coming soon. And, its been getting pretty cool here, so cooler weather looks are to come.

Hi Guys!

I apologize to have gone so long without a post but last week was a whirlwind!  The week started with me beginning a real 9-5 (I feel so grown up–haha) and ended with me having some bug that felt slightly worse than a cold and a notch below the flu (Manhattan germs??) I am gratefully feeling much better, however, I have not had the time to do any new videos or photoshoots for you guys unfortunately. I was able to dredge up some photos from this summer of my brother that we took in Chicago–perfect for Menswear Mondays. I love how he did a nice casual look for summertime and then showed how to add a little punch with the denim vest.

My hope is to snap a few shots of myself in my office gear this week for you guys as well as shoot a YouTube video or two so stay tuned and have a great week! Also, I ran out of time to review all of the NYFW shows that I saw, but if there is a particular line for Spring 2013 that you guys would like me to review, let me know!
